American poverty: By the numbers

I am beginning a project that will surely take months to complete; a definite labor of love. After analyzing the data from the US Census Bureau, I have determined one county in each state to be the poorest. My project is to visit each of these counties and write about women and children’s health issues in these counties. The counties are as follows:

-) Alaska: Wade Hampton Census Area
-) Arizona: Apache County
-) Arkansas: Lee County
-) California: Fresno County
-) Colorado: Costilla County
-) Connecticut: New Haven County
-) Delaware: Sussex County
-) District of Columbia metro area
-) Florida: Hendry County

-) Michigan: Lake County (Special note here- Detroit city metro was not analyzed as a separate entity in US Census Date Report)
-) Minnesota: Mahnomen County
-) Mississippi: Humphreys County
-) Missouri: Hickory County
-) Montana: Blaine County
-) Nebraska: Blaine County
-) Nevada: Nye County
-) New Hampshire: Coos County
-) New Jersey: Cumberland County
-) New Mexico: Luna County

Some of these counties are in the top 100 poorest counties in the nation; as one might expect. Also of note are that several of these counties have a high Native American population.
